Our Commitment

Gender Equality

Around the world, millions of women and girls cannot afford to buy or don’t have reliable access to the safe menstrual products they need. This has a huge impact on their health, attendance and performance in school or at work as well as in their social and personal development.

We believe in a society where there are equal opportunities for women, men, girls and boys. Ensuring girls and women’s menstrual health is key to achieve Gender Equality.

Environment

A conventional sanitary pad is up to 90% plastic – that’s the equivalent of four plastic bags – and requires about 500-800 years to decompose. On average, a woman will use 11,000 disposable menstrual products, throwing away up to 200kg of period products in her lifetime.

We believe in green periods, and this is why we only design, produce and distribute sustainable menstrual products. All our menstrual products and packaging are reusable, and as much as possible made from recycled materials. Our company also has a Zero Waste Production and Sales Policy.

Social Responsibility

MELA FOR HER does not only fill a social gap by offering affordable, quality and sustainable products. It also creates shared value for the community by hiring and investing in young unemployed women and men, as well as staffing women in leading positions. We strive for market systems to work for women and girls. Our aim is that international and national policy, together with legal frameworks, are supportive and promote menstrual hygiene and health.

Part of MELA’s profits are reinvested in social and environmental projects such as the provision of free menstrual products, the promotion of girls and women’ education and protection, as well as environmental conservation and protection.
